Welcome to Season 3!!! I know, it’s been a minute. I didn’t plan for the long gap between Season 2 and Season 3, but at the end of the day, here we are! I’m so excited to be back, especially on this special day of International Women’s Day. I’m so proud of all of you and all the amazing and extraordinary things you are doing daily. I wish I could have mentioned everybody in this podcast, but we all know that would probably be a +24-hour long podcast. 🙂 But here are a few women I decided to celebrate on IWD today. Enjoy. xx

Hello, and welcome to Mother of Abundance – the place where ambitious, caring mothers find information on how to live your best life. So whether you’re a mother who’s growing a business, climbing the corporate ladder, studying for a qualification or an at home mother, while striving to be the best you can be, you’re in the right place. I’m your host, Xina Gooding Broderick.

Happy International Women’s Day! Welcome to Season 3, Episode 1, of the Mother of Abundance podcast. I have really missed being in this space. How have you been? Send me an email, inbox me on my socials, let me know what you’ve been up to.

I’ve been homeschooling, working on my Masters, working on my program. More on that a little bit later. But I want to celebrate today. I’m coming back here in celebration mode. Because I want to celebrate my women today. I definitely do want to celebrate you. And I want to celebrate all women today. There’s a few that I’m going to point out to and I want to hear from you who you are celebrating today. And how you’re celebrating yourself, because don’t wait for someone to celebrate you. Make sure you celebrate yourself. Irrespective. You know, I’m big on that.

So as you know, today is International Women’s Day. If you’re listening to this on Monday, the 8th of March. So we’re gonna do a little walk down history lane about this day. International Women’s Day, also known as IWD for short, grew out of the labor movement to become a recognized annual event by the United Nations or the UN. The seeds of it were planted in 1908, when 15,000 women, that’s 15,000. 15k women marched through New York City demanding shorter working hours, better pay and the right to vote. It was the Socialist Party of America who declared the first National Women’s Day a year later.

The idea to make the day international came from a woman called Clara Zetkin. She suggested the idea, in 1910, at an international conference of working women in Copenhagen. There were 100 women there, from 17 countries and they agreed on her suggestion, unanimously. It was first celebrated, in 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. But things were made official in 1975 when the UN started celebrating the day.

So when is IWD? Well, it’s on the eighth of March today, every year. It’s a day to celebrate women’s achievement, raise awareness about women’s equality, lobby for accelerated gender parity, fundraise for female focus charities. The colors that symbolize IWD are purple, for justice and dignity. Green, which symbolizes hope. And white represents purity, oh, yeah. But that’s quite a controversial concept. The theme for this year’s IWD is #ChooseToChallenge. With the idea that a challenged world is an alert world and individually we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions.

Some of the women I want to celebrate this year include Kizzmekia (Kizzy) Corbett. She’s an American viral immunologist. And she’s praised as the key scientist behind the COVID-19 vaccine, that her and her team helped to develop with the Moderna company.

There’s Jacinda Ardern. She’s the Prime Minister of New Zealand. And is probably the first leader in the world to bring out a well-being budget. She’s also announced free sanitary products to all school girls, to beat period poverty.

I don’t know if you know this about me, but I have experienced abject poverty. I have had to choose between whether to charge my gas card, or to charge my electricity key or to buy food for myself and for my eldest son. And that was when I was a student. And I was struggling financially as a single parent at the time as well. It was really tough, and I do remember not having enough money for sanitary products, and literally staying inside and using toilet paper. Really not cool. Not nice. Not a good memory. And I was thinking when I’d heard about this period poverty. I’ve never been in that situation since. And please, God, I never will be. But period poverty is real. And I praise Jacinda for addressing that and making sure that it becomes a thing of the past in New Zealand.

The next person I want to raise up today is Mia Amor Mottley, she is the prime minister of Barbados. Big cheers for Barbados. That’s where my dad was born. I’ve been to the island a couple of times. I really love it there. But today I want to just raise her up for doing an exceptional job in keeping the COVID-19 statistics down in Barbados. Since the outbreak there in 2020, in February, to the 4th of March, 2021, there have been 3,163 cases in total. 37 deaths in total. 2606 people have recovered. And just the way that she was swift in her dealing of COVID in Barbados has just been fantastic.

I also want to raise up Kamala Harris. She is the Vice President of the United States. She is the first female Vice President, the highest ranking female official in U.S. history. She’s also the first African American and first Asian American vice president.

Next is Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. She is a Nigerian-American economist and international development expert. And since the first of March 2021, she is serving as Director General of the World Trade Organization. She’s the first woman and first African to hold the office.

Nicola Sturgeon, serving as First Minister of Scotland and the leader of the Scottish National Party since 2014, has done an amazing job of handling the COVID-19 situation in Scotland.

I’ve got to do a special shout out to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Meghan is definitely representing the International Women’s Day, #ChooseToChallenge theme. Without a doubt, her interview with Oprah Winfrey will raise awareness against bias. And she has certainly taken action for equality in speaking about her experience as a member of the British royal family.

This is not the end of the list. That’s the list of women who are far and wide. But before I move on to just a few of the women who are near dear and very close to my heart, I wanted to share a word from our new sponsor. I’ve got a new sponsor. The new sponsor is Your Best Life Academy for Ambitious, Loving Mothers. I’m really excited to share with you that the Academy is there specifically to help ambitious loving mothers to deal with their biggest challenges. What I love most about the concept is the recognition that a lot of women actually know what they want. But they’re so busy and overwhelmed, that they often feel they don’t have the time to implement the positive changes they’d like to make. And they often struggle to make those changes stick to. But this program is different. After this 10-week signature coaching program, you’ll have the tools, habits and strategies to ditch overwhelm, overcome maternal guilt and be more present with your family and with yourself. And with yourself. That’s so important too, isn’t it? The Academy is currently inviting its founding members.

If you decide to become a founding member, this is what you’ll get. You’ll get ground floor access, the opportunity to shape the course curriculum, lifetime access to the program, including all future upgrades. This is a well-researched signature program with the sole purpose of bringing about positive permanent change, using proven techniques, and you get it at the lowest price ever. After the founding members give feedback on the course, the course will be formalised, and the price will be increased for any future launches. For all ambitious, loving mothers throughout the world, particularly those of us who are happy that today, our children are back at school with their friends for the first time this year. I don’t know how you’ve been getting on. But I can tell you, with all the knowledge that I have about self-care, balance and all the rest of it, it’s still been challenging. This is a time where compassion for myself has really had to come to the fore. And those who love me and know me, have had to be very patient if I’ve not been around as much as I would have liked to have been.

This podcast is a case in point because let’s say right, because it’s March. And I had no intention of the gap between the end of Season 2 and the start of Season 3 being this big, but hey, now you guys know what I’ve been up to; homeschooling, looking after my son, communicating with my ladies in the Mother of Abundance group. I did manage to jump on a few Facebook LIVEs in there. Communicating better with my email subscribers. Oh, I love you guys, by the way, and thank you for your responses. Oh my goodness. So yeah, for all of you women, I want to raise you up today. I want to celebrate you, today.

Last person I’m going to mention is my wonderful, cute, adorable, amazing, powerful, extraordinary mother, Thelma Thomas. God bless you, Darling.

Now if you think that there were people on that list that I should have added, that’s fine, because you know what, it’s over to you now. I want you to tag as many women you would like to celebrate today. Anybody who wants to put their business links or whatever it is that they’re up to, their projects, whatever. If you’re in corporate, feel free to tag your business if you want to. Let us know about your hobbies. Just you know, celebrate yourselves because a high tide raises all boats and we’re all in this together. Please feel free to celebrate yourself as well. It’s not, we are allowed to celebrate ourselves. We are allowed to celebrate other people and we are allowed to show the value that we are adding.

That’s it from me for now. Happy Women’s Day!
