Balancing home and life can be very challenging when you’re a working mother wanting to excel in your career, whilst also being there for your family.  It can be tough to find a balance that works for everyone.

The toughest time for me was when I was a young mother and full time student in a strained relationship.  Then again as a single mother and graduate, trying to climb the career ladder.  I got into a good routine that I could just about manage and was worried about pushing myself any further because I didn’t want my relationship with my son to suffer.  Honestly?  I found that quite frustrating.  I wanted a stimulating job, financial security and quality time with my son.

I’ve specifically created a work life that’s synergistic with my home life.  It’s taken me years to get here.  I’m hoping that my tips below can make things easier for you than they were for me for many years.

Here are 5 tips to help you balance work and family:

  1. Set priorities: Identify your most important tasks and focus on completing them first. This will help you stay organised and on track.
  2. Create a schedule: Plan your day ahead of time and stick to a routine as much as possible. This will help you manage your time more effectively and reduce stress.
  3. Delegate tasks: Don’t try to do everything yourself. Ask for help from family members or hire a personal assistant to take care of non-essential tasks.
  4. Take breaks: Make sure to take regular breaks throughout the day to recharge and refocus. This can be as simple as drinking your tea in the kitchen, away from your desk, just to be alone with your thoughts for a while.  Doing this will help you be more productive when you return to work.
  5. Connect with other working mothers: Building a support system of other working mothers can be incredibly helpful. Share tips, advice, and support with each other to help each other through the ups and downs of balancing work and family.
