Your task on Day 13 of The 28 Day Abundant Practice Challenge is to think carefully about who you spend your time with.

As a Mother of Abundance, we tell our children to play with nice friends because we want them to be around people who reflect the good values we’re teaching them at home.  This habit of carefully choosing the company we keep shouldn’t end when we leave school.  It’s a life long skill.

You love your children and you’re ambitious?  Hang out with like-minded people.  Do you like self-improvement?  Hang out with others who like self-improvement too.

I’m not saying to alienate people who don’t have the same hobbies and interests as you, but they should definitely share the same values – just like the friends you want for your children.

They should be:

  • honest
  • kind
  • of decent character
  • positive
  • caring
  • supportive

I’ve made the odd mistake in the past, but I still give people the benefit of the doubt when I meet them.

They may project these values, but fall far short – like the “good friend” who was sleeping with my ex-husband when I was still married to him.  But that’s another story for another day!

Regardless, everyone has a clean slate but if they fall short (aside from the normal human imperfections we all have) they’re put to one side so that someone else can have a go.

This isn’t because I’m mean or hard, it’s genuinely because I recognise the value of my time and I’m not going to waste it as a special favour to anyone – nor should you.  As a funeral director, I know better than most that “more time” isn’t promised to anyone.  So, remember that your time is precious – be mindful of who you spend it with.

Does your inner circle of people reflect your values?  What are your inner circle like?  Are they good for you?  Or, are your inner circle the people who hold you back the most?  Whatever your situation, I’d love to hear from you below.
